Wedding planning is complicated so you need a
written plan for the wedding. Get a binder
and put all your ideas, notes, phone numbers, research, magazine
clippings, sample invitations, etc. into the binder.
Decide
on your budget
for the event. Be certain to take into account all of the
various components of the event. Figure that your initial
budget will be under the actual amount by 10% or more. Cost
Planning
The
more time you give yourself to plan the wedding the easier
it will be to co-ordinate all of the necessary people and
resources.
Timeline
- Create a timeline
for accomplishing tasks and key events. Remain as flexible
as possible in the early stages of planning.
The
Planners-
Decide early who will be making or sharing in making plans
for the wedding, it will save a lot of emotional capital and
re-planning.
Add
to your list the people who will be involved in planning or
helping and what they will do.
Many
of your friends and family will want to help. You can and
should delegate a lot of what needs to be done, but you need
to delegate wisely and you need to stay on top of what people
are doing for you.
You
may want to hire a professional wedding planner. Your wedding
planner will be aware of all available wedding services in
your area. This person can help both the bride and the groom
by answering numerous questions about wedding cakes, wedding
gowns, receptions, halls and other venues, florists, caterers,
etc. Parties By Panache has wedding planners on staff.
Vendors
- Make a list of all your vendors (caterer, dressmaker, florist,
location agent, musicians, etc.) include phone numbers, fax
numbers, e-mail addresses and their physical addresses. Keep
notes on all conversations. Keep all of your lists in the
binder.
Venue
- You need to select the location for your wedding reception
as soon as possible and you need to make sure that it is rented
for your event. Popular locations for wedding receptions during
peak wedding seasons may be booked for months or years in
advance, so act early.
Menu
Planning
- The bride and groom will probably not get to eat much at
the wedding reception, but your guests will and lets
face it this is probably the biggest party you will host for
several years. The food must be right and it must available
to the guests in convenient formats. The menu should
be planned to compliment the season and the location in addition
to taking into account favorite foods. Hors d'oeuvre
will hold over the guests while the bride, groom and wedding
party are photographed, but you do want your guests to eat
the main meal. Have a timeline for the meal service and try
to stick to it.
Decor -
The wedding will last for one day, the memories will last
a lifetime. Create an atmosphere that you will love. Attempt
to make all elements of the decor form a seamless whole.
Entertainment -
Decide what is appropriate for your guests. Audition
the entertainment to be certain they play as well as they
talk.
Consider
volume when it comes to bands, D.J.s, etc. Too loud and your
guests will leave early, not loud enough and why bother.
Be adamant about play time, volume, selections.
Miscellaneous:
Valet
Parking
- This can make your venue more accessible to your
guests and will allow your guests more time at the
wedding. Valet parking will make the very first
impression on your guests, professionalism is a
must.
Wedding
Cakes - If you see a design that you like
in a magazine or book, get the picture right away because
you will probably never find it again. Select a cake
that tastes great and you know your guests will enjoy eating.
Flowers
- Consider Season. Consider multiple event use.
